About

During a random chat at Panera on W. Broad with Jason Kenney and the world-renowned The Checkout Girl, I was talking about the lack of writer support in Richmond. I was yearning for my college days, when my advanced creative writing class would sit for hours and write our fingers to the bone, then shred each other’s work (constructively, of course!).

A few hours later, WriteClubRVA was born. We bought a domain name, pressured friends to do things for free, lined up meeting space, and voila. The primary purpose of WriteClubRVA is to encourage writers to write. Those who write blogs, fiction, non-fiction, or professionally are welcome, as well as anyone with an interest in the written word.

Meetings are fluid. Generally we start by goal setting and accountability. If the group is large, we split up into areas of interests. If the group is smaller, we discuss any issues or ideas we have. After, we usually do a writing exercise (like oneword.com), and follow it up with some free writing. We are fortunate to have varying levels of writers, from those who actually earn a living doing it to those who are just starting. All are welcome. Meeting locations vary; check the website for the most recent information.

I’m so glad you stopped by!  Feel free to get in touch with me if you would like more information.

Go forth and write,

Cristina
